About
When The Houston Post
closed in 1995, Cleverley Stone found herself out of work, along with about
2,000 of her fellow employees.
She ran the wedding section of the newspaper and wrote a Sunday column called
"Down the Aisle."
In 1997 she started
Cleverley’s Newsletter as a hobby and faxed it to friends who were
interested in news about
Houston’s restaurant, hotel and club scene. The faxed version became an emailed
newsletter and in 2007
it morphed into her blog at
http://blog.cleverley.com, now concentrating on Houston’s restaurant news.
Cleverley knows her way
around a menu! Since 2003 she’s shared her love of food, wine and dining on a
radio talk show.
"The Cleverley Show" currently airs on Saturdays at Noon on CNN 650 Radio News
in Houston.
She also contributes to Houston's Fox 26 Morning News on Fridays, sharing
restaurant news and
talking with chefs and celebrities as they cook delicious
dishes.
Cleverley was born in New York
City, raised in New Jersey and attended the Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania.
An avid traveler since childhood, she’s hiked the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland
and learned to love Gorgonzola in Italy.
She learned the fine elements of high tea and how to ride a two-wheeler, that
her father purchased for her in London,
around the triple smokestacks of the Queen Mary during a transatlantic voyage from Southampton to New York.
Prior to arriving in Houston
she was silver and crystal
buyer, and bridal registry director, for the Fifth Avenue department store B. Altman & Co.
She came to Houston to become the bridal registry
director for Foley’s department store (now Macy's). She’s written
for Home Furnishings Daily, Houston Metropolitan magazine, served as contributing editor and columnist
for Bride & Groom magazine,
restaurant columnist for Inside Houston magazine, and food and wine
editor for Me-Style & Décor and Restaurant & Resort magazines.
Cleverley has hosted
eponymous radio shows in Houston on KRTS-92.1 FM, Biz Radio 1320, KFNC-97.5 FM
and created the popular
“All Things Delicious” features on Smooth Jazz 95.7-The Wave, where she was
known as the Diva of All Things Delicious.
"Cleverley's Restaurant Minutes" can now be heard on K-Hits 107.5 FM in Houston.
Cleverley is the chairman and
co-founder of Houston Restaurant Week,
an annual charity event benefiting Houston’s End Hunger Network.
